I can honestly say I didn’t find too much with President Trumps speech that I could disagree with. Progress has been good in the first year and the goals for the future are not only worthy but attainable. But what struck me the most was the division of our elected leaders.
I get it, I get it… the other party is not supposed to agree with everything the President says. No problem with that at all. When you refuse to stand in support of families that have lost loved ones to illegal gangs, shame on you. When you refuse to acknowledge minority jobless rates are the lowest they have ever been, shame on you. Even those things pale in comparison to what I am about to say. When you can not even support the idea of putting America First, I have a REAL PROBLEM with that.
If you do not support this country, you do not deserve to represent the people of this country as an elected official. If you do not support this country above all others, you do not deserve to be a citizen here. If you are not WITH America you are AGAINST America. I fully support your right to disagree and attempt to make changes where it makes sense and when warranted. Our founders gave the people license and recourse to change the government when it no longer served the common good. But when our elected representatives cannot even agree that the welfare and protection of America should be our priority and receive more attention than supporting Mexico, Venezuela, North Korea, China, Russia or any of a growing number of countries that hate us, Well then, I say it is time to clean house. Democrats and Republicans alike, if you do not value America greater than any other country, you are welcome to renounce your American citizenship and move to your country of choice. America does NOT want you here to undermine the integrity of 241 years of blood, sweat, tears and sacrifices that it took to create the worlds greatest experiment in a representative republic.
On the final day of deliberation Dr. James McHenry recorded that a lady asked Benjamin Franklin as he exited Independence Hall, “Well, Doctor, what do we have, a republic or a monarchy?” Without missing a beat Dr. Franklin replied, “ A Republic — if you can keep it.” I believe in this one simple response, Dr. Franklin unknowingly predicted how hard it would be for us as a people to maintain such a government. It is incumbent upon us today to recognize the difficulties we face, put aside our politics and differences and work to strengthen the most envied country the world has ever seen.
